AhlulBayt News Agency: In the Maldives, the age gap between the youngest and oldest Quran memorizers spans an incredible 81 years, showcasing remarkable dedication across generations. According to the National Centre for the Holy Quran, the youngest Hafiz is Aman Ahmed Athif, a ten-year-old from Daisymaage, B. Hithaadhoo, while the oldest is Mohamed Naeem, aged 91.
Currently, there are 266 trained Quran memorizers in the Maldives, comprising 126 females and 140 males. The center revealed that Addu City is home to the highest number of memorizers, with 65 individuals whose average age is 53. Fuvahmulah follows closely with 61 memorizers, averaging 48 years of age. Third on the list is Lh. Naifaru, where most of the ten memorizers are school students.
The data, shared by the center in response to a Right To Information request by Mihaaru News, highlights the enduring importance of Quran memorization as part of the Maldivian cultural and religious identity, bridging generations and communities.
